I’ve been working at Urban Outfitters for about 6 months now and last season I got the opportunity to help out with their Holiday floorsets. I learned so much and have become very interested in display art. Next semester I will intern with the Joel, the very talented display artist at store #27, and will be getting some great experience doing installation pieces for the store. Each Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie store (they are under the same company U.O) employ their own display artist who’s job is to create displays for the stores that are cohesive with the clothing each season. These minds are responsible for developing an environment that will intrigue each customer as they walk through their creation. I couldn’t imagine a cooler job.

My favorite project this season was the wood panel installation we did on the platform where the manikins stand at the store entrance. It was one of the last days of Holiday floorsets and we had to start and finish the whole panel 45 minutes before the store opened. Joel picked up various plywood and I stained them earlier that morning. The installation took all 45 minutes of sawing and scrambling but I couldn’t be more excited about the finished piece.
